We understand that housing is a critical need for most indigenous communities and that housing needs may vary depending on whether a tribally-designated housing entity (TDHE), tribal housing department, or business enterprise is leading the initiative.

Our experience in working with federal, state and local housing authorities has proven invaluable to our clients as they develop strategic approaches to meet the needs of the housing needs of their community. We often assist our clients in advocating for policy changes and funding initiatives internally within tribal governments and externally with state and federal agencies.

We have assisted tribes by drafting comprehensive housing and leasing laws, regulations, procedures, and handbooks. Our attorneys have extensive knowledge and experience with relevant federal laws and regulations, including the Native American Housing Assistance and Self-Determination Act of 1996 (NAHASDA).

When it comes to building housing projects, we help our clients find funding through low-income housing tax credits (LIHTC), the federal home loan bank, state housing grant programs (like California’s HomeKey initiative)and a variety of other financial institutions and grant programs. We will also negotiate financing arrangements and contracts with third parties to ensure our clients are fully protected and obtain the best terms possible.
